The aerial route (ropeways), tramways, funicular rail, the mono-rail and waterways are systems that only few of the cities have found suitable to their specific needs; however, these solutions would e valid across a larger spectrum as urbanization in India is increasing at a rapid pace. In addition to public transport and NMT, the interventions in parking policies, facilitating urban freight, and penetration of Intelligent Transport Systems Systems (ITS), and capacity building at institutional and individual level will be catalysts for sustainable urbanization.

In recent times various innovations such as retrofitment of buses and other modes with the objective to improve fuel and performamce efficiency, shift to electric/hybrid vehicles or non-fossil fuel for public transport etc have also been taking pace, which would result in overall improvement in mobility.
